The pandemic was such a shock to the system that it absorbed all of our energy and all of our attention. The responses to school achievement during and after the pandemic were to try to add more time to the school day, or some focused tutoring—efforts that were just trying to make up for the symptoms of the pandemic. Kids weren’t in school as much and were a bit disrupted. The changes did nothing to alter this decline.
