It surprises nobody to say that parents are important in guiding children’s lives. Having said that, most people also go on to conclude that there is a systematic relationship such that children of parents with higher socioeconomic status do better in many ways than children from lower socioeconomic families. But what are the implications of that, particularly if one thinks in government policy terms?
